<br />section VI. <br /> <br />~ r <br /> <br />ii <br /> <br />i; <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />i <br /> <br />:; <br /> <br />: ' <br /> <br />That Section 29-30, Impoundment, is <br />hereby amended as follows: <br /> <br />(a) Authorit~ to Impound or Move Vehicles. <br />In additlon to the authority granted <br />the police department in other provisions <br />of this chapter, members of the police <br />department are authorized to remove a <br />vehicle from a street or highway to the <br />nearest garage or other place of safety <br />or storage designated Or maintained by <br />the police department or the city, under <br />the following circumstances: <br /> <br />-I <br />I <br /> <br />(1) When any vehicle is left unattended <br />upon any bridge, viaduct, causeway, <br />freeway, or in any moving traffic <br />lane of any highway so as to <br />constitute an obstruction to traffic. <br /> <br />(2) When any vehicle upon a street or <br />highway is disabled so as to <br />constitute an obstruction to <br />traffic, or the person or persons <br />in charge of the vehicle are, by <br />reason of physical injury, alcohol, <br />narcotics or personal illness, <br />incapacitated to such an extent as <br />to be unable to provide for its <br />custody or removal. <br /> <br />(3) When any vehicle is permitted to <br />remain on any public street or <br />highway in the same location for <br />more than 48 hours in succession. <br /> <br />(4) when any vehicle is left unattended <br />in any posted fire lane. <br /> <br />(b) Notice Required. Whenever a member of <br />the police department removes a vehicle <br />from a street, as authorized by this <br />section, and the member knows or is able <br />to ascertain from the registration <br />records in the vehicle, or on file with <br />the motor vehicle registration authorities <br />the name and address of the owner thereof, <br />such member shall promptly give, or cause <br />to be given, in writing to such owner of <br />the fact of such removal and of the place <br />to which such vehicle has been removed. <br />In the event such vehicle is stored in a <br />public garage or other public place of <br />safety or storage, a copy of such notice <br />shall be given to the proprietor of such <br />garage or place. <br />
