(from 21- <br />16) <br /> <br />Section 21-10. Probationary Period <br /> <br />All regular appointments in the City service shall be subject <br />to the serving of a probationary period. This probationarY1 <br />period shall be regarded as an integral part of the initial <br />selection and examination process and shall be utilized for ',. <br />closely observing the employee's work, for securing the most. <br />effective adjustment of the employee to his or her position, I <br />and for rejecting any employee whose performance does not! <br />meet the required work standards of the class. <br /> <br />(b) The probationary period for all City employees, except police <br />officers, shall be six (6) months from the date of employment <br />or promotion. <br /> <br />(c) The probationary period for all police officers shall be one <br />year from the date of employment or promotion. <br /> <br />(d) Promotional and transfer probationary employees, if found to <br />be unsuited for the position to which promoted or transfer- <br />red, may be reinstated to the positions and rate of payor <br />other position in the class from which promoted or transfer- <br />red. <br /> <br />(e) A probationary employee may be discharged from their position <br />at any time during the probationary period by the City Hana- <br />ger. Successful completion of the probationary period does <br />not in and of itself create any entitlement to continue <br />employment. Employment remains at will. I <br />1 <br />,(f) At least twenty (20) days prior to the expiration of the pro-I' <br />bationary period, the employee's supervisor shall conduct ~ <br />probationary interview and make a written report to the Cityi <br />Manager as to whether the services of the employee have beenl <br />satisfactory and whether the employee should be retained i~ <br />the appointed position. Subsequent to the end of the proba~ <br />tionary period, the City Manager shall designate the employe <br />for regular appointment, reduce to original grade, or dis- <br />charge the employee. The decision of the City Manager is <br />final and shall be provided to the employee in writing.l <br />(Code 1966 ~ 240.16; Ord. No. 347, 1-28-75). I <br /> <br />Section 21-11. Regular Hours of Work I <br /> <br />The normal hours of work for all employees shall be established b.1 <br />the City. 4 <br />! <br />Department heads and supervisory employees are required to put i~ <br />any time necessary to perform their jobs. i <br />I <br />city employees, when working under conditions where the use of ~ <br />rest break is practicable, shall be granted a rest break not tq <br />exceed fifteen (15) minutes on two separate occasions durint1 ,eacli <br />work shift.
